In his recent Budget speech Chancellor Alistair Darling announced that the Landfill Tax escalator has been extended by a further year and will now rise by £8.00 per year reaching £80.00 per tonne in 2014/15. This measure, as part of a wider government commitment is aimed at securing a low-carbon economy and is designed to encourage alternatives to landfill.
